Community Projects

Do you work with the elderly population?

Would you like to provide an activity to stimulate the memory, encourage
conversation and help to relax and soothe?

Have you ever experienced the effect that music from their past has on them?
We are a collective of community artists called ‘The Wind-Ups’ and are the proud owners of 2 clockwork wind-up gramophone turntables. They have been specially adapted to allow amplification through a small PA system, meaning the records are audibly accessible to everyone, including those hard of hearing.

We have a large selection of original shellac 78 rpm records, with recordings of many popular artists from the 1920’s to the 1950’s.

Our aim is to give the elderly the opportunity to listen to authentic recordings of their favourite old songs and see the gramophones in use. We have found the experience can evoke memories of the past and trigger conversation. We would be very interested in developing these stories into oral history projects.

We really enjoy sharing these memories and always have time for a chat and to answer any questions about the gramophones and records.

Do not hesitate to contact us by email if you have any questions. We can then arrange to discuss your specific client group and setting.
